Makeover for Alex pre-school
It’s been a ‘‘long time coming’’ but Kopuwai Early Learning Centre finally has its new $55,000 playground.
The staff and 40 registered pupils of the Alexandra pre-school are really happy with how it turned out, office administrator Veronica Ingram said.
‘‘There’s been lots of fundraising to create the masterpiece.
‘‘We’ve been fundraising for the last couple of years.
‘‘All our staff and everyone put in a big effort.’’
The new playground at the Marslin St centre includes a whare, a slide, a working river bed, a bike track, new paths, raised gardens and a mud kitchen.
‘‘They [children] are loving it. Just to have the space and everything again.’’
Children had had to ‘‘endure playing out in the front area’’ for the past few weeks while the new playground was installed and landscaping completed.
Aside from fundraising efforts of parents and staff, the new playground had been made possible thanks to grants from the Central Lakes Trust and Otago Community Trust.
Weka Landscaping, Alexandra Men’s Shed and parents had completed the installation.
An official opening and a blessing by local iwi was held on Monday, followed by morning tea for all those that helped.
