Wheel spinning bike film night

Central Otago Mirror - - CLASSIFIEDS - MARJORIE COOK Cycle Chic: Big Bike Night: TICKET GIVEAWAY:

A short film night to raise funds to repair Taupo’s bike sculpture has sparked a travelling event that is coming to Central Otago.

Big Bike Night event director Brett Cotter said the 2015 international film night was so successful he decided to tour it to 16 centres last year, but only made it as far south as Christchurch.

This year, Wanaka, Queenstown and Alexandra have been included.

Cotter has added a ‘‘sister act’’, Cycle Chic, targeting female audiences in Wanaka and Alexandra only.

Cycle Chic was introduced to balance the masculine focus of Big Bike Night.

‘‘It is celebrating pedal power meeting girl power. I found that was the hardest to curate. It took three years to find the right material. The one is softer, more thought provoking but equally as inspiring,’’ Cotter said.

Edgewater Hotel, Wanaka, Wednesday May 31, 6pm; Central Cinema, Alexandra, Wednesday June 7, 7.30pm.
