We are going into a season of elections.
Otago Regional Council byelection voting forms will be turning up in mailboxes shortly and we have two worthy candidates to choose from. Your decision might be helped by reading the answers provided to us by the candidates on some of the questions we asked (page 8).
The Wanaka by-election is likely to be feisty also. As we go to print three candidates have been nominated. More might follow before Thursday’s deadline.
And in September we have a national election. There’s a lot to think about in last week’s budget - most of which won’t be implemented unless the Government returns.
Will it do anything to help the pressing problems of housing and tourism in this region? Is the promise of Tourism Minister Paula Bennett to make Queenstown an ‘‘exceptional case’’ for funding to cope with tourist numbers enough?
