Church hall gets fund for care, support
An upgrade of Cromwell’s Catholic Parish Hall will see a pastoral care centre established and two rooms created for community use.
Father Martin Flannery, of the Cromwell-Upper Clutha Catholic Parish, said the upgrade would provide a more welcoming facility where people who needed care and counselling support could come.
A grant of $60,000 from the Central Lakes Trust has gone toward the project.
‘‘A reasonable part of the funding will be used to enhance the entrance and also chip seal the carpark,’’ Flannery said.
Central Lakes Trust chairman Tony Hill said it was one of 10 grants totalling over quarter of a million dollars that was approved by Central Lakes Trust in its latest funding round.
The Cromwell Volunteer Fire Brigade was granted $30,000 towards the cost of replacing its operational support vehicle. This vehicle is used to transport equipment and personnel to call outs and is essential to its service provision. The vehicle responds to about 80 calls each year. The cost of a new vehicle is over $51,000.
Cromwell Resource Centre was granted $28,333.
