Young cast prepares to stage a classic musical...
It’s a younger cast for the Alexandra Musical Society’s latest show, Grease, which opens to the public early next month.
‘‘I think Grease is such a classic show,’’ promotions manager Ann Jones said.
‘‘I suppose it just sort of attracts the younger ones.
‘‘They sort of like the upbeat ones.’’
The show has a cast of just over 50, with most being a bit younger than previous performances.
Alexandra’s Hunter Hill will star as Danny and Wanaka’s Anna Munro as Sandy.
The cast is rehearsing four times a week at present and it is ‘‘looking really good’’, Jones said.
The show is directed by Matt van den Yssel and choreographed by Danika Gilbert.
There has already been huge support from the community, and Jones expects large audiences between July 8 and 14 at the Alexandra Memorial Theatre.
‘‘It’s just such a popular show. ‘‘People know the songs and they just want to come along and see other people doing it.’’
Last year the Alexandra Musical Society put on Pirates of Penzance, which won best Best Properties and Best Wardrobe at the Otago Southland Theatre Awards earlier this year.
As well as Grease, the group will present a compilation show for its 60th reunion in September.
