Central Otago Mirror - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE -

It’s been a week since the people of Queenstown have heard from our local Member of Parliament.

Following the scandal that broke over his alleged taping of electorate staffer Glenys Dickson, Todd Barclay said he will not stand at this year’s election.

That was the right thing to do. As I told my confused children when they wanted an explanation - he made a mistake. That in itself is not bad. We’ve all been guilty of it. But then he lied about it and that is not acceptable behaviour, especially from an elected representative.

The police are now conducting a ‘‘re-investigation’’ into the matter and time will tell how much this will hurt the Prime Minister and the National Party at this year’s election.

But in the meantime Todd still has a job to do and is being paid to do it. He has always been very active in this widespread electorate and we look forward to seeing him getting back in the saddle.
