Central Otago Mirror - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE -

Last week I was wondering where our local MP Todd Barclay was.

On Monday afternoon I found out. He was at the pub. At least, he was standing outside The Pig and Whistle talking on his phone when I saw him.

Given that he hasn’t been answering the phone to any of our journalists, nor when we have called by his Arrowtown home for a visit, and given that we are really keen to know when he is returning to his job as our elected representative, which he is still being paid for even though he disappeared from public life after announcing he wouldn’t stand for re-election in December two weeks ago, I grabbed the opportunity for a conversation.

I waited 10 minutes for him to finish his phone call but all he had to say to me was ’’I’m not going to be speaking to anybody’’ several times and the fact that he was ‘‘taking a bit of a break’’, before heading inside.

We look forward to your return Todd.
