Alexandra’s Pioneer Park will get a $40,000 contribution toward new equipment, following a grant from the Central Lakes Trust.

A playground assessment earlier identified equipment in the junior playground needed replacing to meet New Zealand playground safety standards.

The project will include relocating the junior play area adjacent to the senior play area in order to provide more space for markets and community events under the trees.

The total cost of the project is $140,664, with $100,000 being contributed by the Vincent Community Board. It is expected to be completed by December this year.

This was one of 14 grants, totalling over $300,000 that Central Lakes Trust approved at its latest funding round.

Another project to get a significant funding boost of $90,000 from the Trust was the Lakes District Museum to help it build a belowstreet level storage facility.

Presently the museum storage is inadequate, hard to access and not ideal for objects.

Lakes District Museum director David Clarke said it would futureproof the museum’s capacibilities.

The trust has approved grants worth over $2.5 million in the first three months of its current financial year.
