Members of my family are suffering from the winter lurgy.

This year’s nasty strain appears to involve a nasty dry cough, loss of appetite and general tiredness.

Every time I mention it someone else has a story of a friend or family member with the same symptoms.

I shouldn’t complain. It is simply one of the evils of winter.

So I have decided instead to focus on the positives of winter.

Skiing is at the top of the list - though it would be nice to see a bit more snow land on our slopes before the season is done.

Team sports is another great pleasure. Netball dominates in our house.

I also love cooking (and eating) hearty food, red wine, Trivial Pursuit, movies, outdoor spas, wearing merinos, hats and gloves and the excuse to read and write.

Which brings me to our Short Story competition. Entries are coming in and entry forms are still going out. What better way to spend some quality winter time. Get in touch now for all the information: mir
