The min­i­mum wage was to pro­tect work­ers from be­ing ex­ploited by un­scrupu­lous em­ploy­ers, not as a way of ad­dress­ing so­cial is­sues like poverty. The prob­lem is not just our low wage econ­omy. It is also the high cost of liv­ing. Rais­ing the min­i­mum wage... will just mean more peo­ple work­ing for the min­i­mum, and it will add to in­fla­tion which makes the cost of liv­ing go up. Mar­cel Driessens
