Central Otago Mirror - - YOUR LOCAL NEWS -

Last Saturday I did Wanaka’s mostly off-road ‘‘tour of the towns’’ via Albert Town, Hawea and Luggate, back to Wanaka.

It was great fun, we stopped for coffee, cider and chips, and I look forward to one day doing the circuit entirely off-road.

This week, my Queenstown colleagues are grappling with timetables for the new $2 buses introduced to reduce traffic congestion.

Central Otago growth is not quite as rampant as Queenstown Lakes’. The focus is on maintaining a massive network of unsealed roads and aging bridges.

But our two districts have much in common: an appealing climate, job opportunities, increasing tourism, residents who love cycling and the outdoors, and lots of cars, trucks, campervans and buses.

Who doesn’t have five bikes and two cars in the garage? Which will you be giving a workout today?

Talk about it with friends on the bus to work, or the Active Wanaka Transport meeting on November 30.
