A long-term project for a Cromwell community-based childcare centre has been completed.

Molyneux Educare is celebrating the completion of its playground - three years after planning started for the project.

Centre manager Beth Phelps said the development started one year ago, clearing the land.

‘‘We agreed early on we would take ownership of the project ourselves to ensure we took every opportunity to customise this project to our centre and philosophy.‘‘

The centre valued sustainable and natural environments, which determined the resources used, including macrocarpa, recycled timber, flagstones, plants and grass, and what was in the vegetable garden, she said.

‘‘There are spaces for large groups and quiet spaces for small groups and it is open ended to allow the children the freedom to create their own play. The real hero of this project is the people who were part of this project along the way. They contributed ideas, time, resources and support. We want to express our heartfelt appreciation to all of them for their enormous contribution.’’
