Wanaka’s air­show boosts econ­omy

A just re­leased report shows a sig­nif­i­cant in­crease in the eco­nomic im­pact and sat­is­fac­tion rat­ings for this year’s War­birds Over Wanaka International Air­show.

The air­show cel­e­brated its 30th an­niver­sary from March 30 - April 1.

Re­search First Ltd sur­veyed 1239 re­spon­dents to com­pile the eco­nomic im­pact report. Data was ac­cu­rate to plus or mi­nus 2.8 per cent.

Air­show gen­eral man­ager Ed Taylor said the air­show trust was thrilled with the re­sults, which showed event visi­tors spent al­most $24 mil­lion, up about $4 mil­lion from 2016.

The over­all pos­i­tive rat­ing for the air­show was 97 per cent, up from 90 per cent.

‘‘We’re es­pe­cially pleased with the high sat­is­fac­tion lev­els. This is some­thing our whole team works so hard on. Mak­ing sure that the fly­ing dis­plays are world-class but also that ev­ery­thing else about the air­show, right down to the toi­let fa­cil­i­ties, are top-notch,’’ Taylor said.
