Treble Cone opens June 23
Outstanding early season conditions have seen Treble Cone Ski Area bring forward its opening date to June 23, five days earlier than scheduled.
The Cardrona and Remarkables skifields opened early on June 2 and 3 as a pre-season teaser for the official opening this Saturday.
Treble Cone general manager Toby Arnott said the June conditions were the best Wanaka had seen in some time and an early season storm had delivered well over a metre of snow.
‘‘We know people want to ride, so we’ve pulled out all the stops and been working round the clock to make this happen,’’ Arnott said.
Head of operations Dave Rutledge said there was a huge amount of work involved in preparing the mountain.
‘‘We’ve got a great crew of new and longterm staff up here and we all want to get the mountain open. It’s been a big week, but it’ll be worth it when we see the grins on the faces of the lucky six people riding that first chair of winter,’’ Rutledge said.
Arnott said people who had bought passes should collect them from the office so they could get straight onto the chairlift.
Lifts from 9am on June 23, accessing the Main and Saddle basins and all runs. All mountain facilities will be operating. A free shuttle service operates from the bottom car park.
