Say it in re reo Ma¯ ori
Activities are being held across CHB this week encouraging the community to learn and use Ma¯ ori language more often as part of Te Wiki o te Reo Ma¯ ori - Ma¯ ori Language Week from September 10-16.
CHB District council chief executive Monique Davidson said the theme this year is ‘Kia Kaha te Reo Ma¯ ori’ -‘Let’s make the Ma¯ ori language strong’.
“This week, we encourage the community to start introducing a little bit of te reo Ma¯ ori into your day,” she said. There will be after-school activities for children at the district libraries, including poi making, Te Reo Rhyme Time, and a colouring competition in the CHB Mail.
Council has also partnered with cafes in Waipawa and Waipukurau and provided a guide for customers on how to order their morning dose of caffeine in te reo Ma¯ ori.
The community can receive updates, including a kupu (word) of the day, on council’s Facebook page.
