Get bak­ing for cake con­test

Cake mix­tures are be­ing stirred all across CHB as con­tes­tants pre­pare for the iced and uniced Christ­mas cake class of the Open Bak­ing Sec­tion at the CHB A&P Show on Satur­day, Novem­ber 10.

En­try to the bak­ing sec­tion is free, and classes in­clude iced cho­co­late cake and savoury scone, all of which will be cut and tasted by the judges on the day. Cakes will also be judged on their pre­sen­ta­tion. Scones need to be pre­sented on a sand­wich plate.

It’s easy to en­ter — just use your favourite recipe, and present your cre­ations to the stew­ard in the In­dus­trial Hall at the Waipuku­rau Show­grounds no later than 8.30am on Satur­day, Novem­ber 10.

The craft sec­tions are also free to en­ter — with the same 8.30am dead­line.

Craft sec­tions in­clude Open Dec­o­ra­tive — a Christ­mas bauble made from any ma­te­rial; Flo­ral Cen­tre­piece in a re­cy­cled con­tainer (imag­i­na­tion en­cour­aged); and the Open Craft Sec­tion — home made Christ­mas stock­ings — any ma­te­rial.

Chil­dren’s sec­tions are Bak­ing — a dec­o­rated gin­ger­bread per­son, judged on taste and pre­sen­ta­tion; Nov­elty sec­tion — a Christ­mas bauble made from any ma­te­ri­als. Age groups are 5 and un­der, and 6 to un­der 13. No com­mer­cial en­tries will be ac­cepted, en­try forms are on the CHB A&P Show web­site, CHB Li­braries or from the A&P of­fice at the show­grounds on Mitchell St.
