In 2016, a group of Sport Can­ter­bury’s Green Pre­scrip­tion par­tic­i­pants also used the 2.5km dis­tance as an ex­cuse to set – and achieve – a spring­time goal.

The 6km and 2.5km cour­ses are suit­able for bug­gies, ac­cord­ing to Wilke. As in 2016, the 11km and 6km cour­ses will take walk­ers and run­ners along­side Lake Pe­ga­sus to the fin­ish.

‘‘The course is scenic, with stun­ning vis­tas to the foothills of North Can­ter­bury, ap­peal­ing to many par­tic­i­pants who re­turn year af­ter year,’’ Wilke said.

Sport Can­ter­bury in­tro­duced the event in re­sponse to sport and re­cre­ation op­por­tu­ni­ties be­ing af­fected by the earth­quakes.

‘‘Cantabri­ans wel­comed the chance to warm up at the end of win­ter and Hellers have been an awe­some fit as spon­sor, with their his­tory and cul­ture of com­mu­nity in­volve­ment. We are grate­ful for their con­tin­ued part­ner­ship.’’
