Enjoy a pamper at Gloucester Cottage

Christchurch Mail - - HEALTH AND WELLBEING -

It’s almost time to swap those winter woollies for spring dresses and sandals, and what better way to join in the freshness of the season than a day of pampering and rejuvenation at the spa?

For more than 20 years, Gloucester Cottage Day and Medi Spa has been lifting spirits, softening skin and soothing tensions with a team of skilled beauticians and massage therapists who know just what it takes to get people feeling their best.

Whether it’s a body polish and facial to farewell dry skin, a massage with fragrant oils and hot stones for deep relaxation, or a wax and spray tan for facing the sun with confidence, Gloucester Cottage does it all.

The breadth of services make it a salon, treatment centre and day resort rolled into one.

A hydro spa and sauna are perfect for groups seeking a relaxing hideaway, while ‘‘escape packages’’ in a variety of forms provide the ultimate treat for pairs or singles.

Run by Maree Dickson since its 1996 launch, Gloucester Cottage returned to its old site after the earthquakes and is today spread across two levels of a modern, character-rich home in Avonside.

It is now specifically designed as a day and medical spa covering all aspects of beauty.

‘‘We have a range of treatments, including pregnancy massages, which has its own en suite,’’ Maree says.

‘‘For something with a difference, we have hot Balinese stones, which are synergised. Then there are the herbal balls, if that entices you. We also do algotherapy body treatments. These treatments can be done in double or single rooms,’’ Maree says.

‘‘For those who just want timeout by themselves, we can offer bath soaks in a private room. Or if you want to be with a friend or friends, then we can offer a hydro spa with private outdoor surrounds.’’

Many options at Gloucester Cottage add to the indulgence with light refreshments of chocolate and ice tea, although the clinic serves as more than just a place to luxuriate: skin cleansing, the easing of aches and pains and a focus on inner calmness are prioritised in a multitude of facial, foot and massage treatments.

Purely cosmetic services are available too, including pedicures and manicures, waxing for both men and women, spray tans, eyebrow shaping and eyelash tinting.

One of Gloucester Cottage’s most popular treatments is their famed ‘‘caviar super lifting’’ facial, which Maree says is ideal before a special event or big evening, when one wants their skin to ‘‘glow and convince’’.

‘‘We have a wonderful range of package deals for you to browse on our web page or on our Facebook page, which has some unique package deals as well,’’ she says.

Gift vouchers are available.

Gloucester Cottage Day and Medi Spa is located at 746 Gloucester St, Avonside and is open Monday to Saturday from 9.30am, with late nights of 7pm on Wednesday and Thursday. For details, phone 03 389 9959 or visit them online at gloucestercottage.co.nz.

A relaxing, candlelit massage by the fireplace at Gloucester Cottage Day and Medi Spa is a great way to restore inner calm, either with a friend or alone.
