The Gov­ern­ment’s $2 bil­lion Fam­ily In­comes Pack­age in Bud­get 2017 would en­sure fam­i­lies di­rectly shared the ben­e­fits of a strong, grow­ing econ­omy, Na­tional’s MP for Ilam, For­eign Af­fairs Min­is­ter Gerry Brown­lee says.

Coun­ter­ing poverty re­quired a ‘‘joined-up’’ ap­proach across mul­ti­ple sec­tors, among them em­ploy­ment, ed­u­ca­tion, health and wel­fare, he said.

‘‘We’re in­vest­ing $434.1m to sup­port chil­dren and young peo­ple in care through the new Min­istry for Vul­ner­a­ble Chil­dren, Oranga Ta­mariki. We’re work­ing hard to help more peo­ple into work which we know sig­nif­i­cantly im­proves lives.’’
