Elmwood players look for divine inspiration

Christchurch Mail - - OUT & ABOUT -

Tim Hambleton’s farcical comedy Heaven Help Us! directed by Phil Dean will be played out at the Elmwood Auditorium, Merivale, Wednesday to Saturday for the next two weeks.

This is the second time Elmwood brought to Christchurch theatregoers a Tim Hambleton play.

The last production ‘‘Thick as thieves’’ in 2014 entertained large audiences with fast paced comedy and a clever story.

Heaven Help Us! is a fast paced, farcical comedy set at the gates of heaven where Angela is sitting in for St Peter while he is on stress leave.

Her main task is to select the right people to enter Heaven, something she has mixed success achieving.

Tim and Phil have a shared alter ego in their daytime jobs working for the New Zealand Police. Tim is a Dunedin-based prosecutor and Phil is a Canterbury-based front line road policing manager.

‘‘It is a real treat for me to be able to collaborate with Tim again outside our professional world, and on such a funny play’’ Dean said.

The cast and director have had such a fun time with this play – you really can’t help but leave with a smile on your face.
