BATHURST: Celebrating 75 Years Of Racing At Mt Panorama

Classic Driver - - HOLMAN -

(Lomas & Klynsmith, published 2013 by Penguin Viking. $60, reviewer’s own copy)

This may be the best book ever written on Bathurst, its history, the people involved and the racing. Running to 360 large pages with hundreds of photos, this has got everything – interviews with the obvious people like drivers and team owners but also Bathurst Mayors, police and hoteliers.

Each year’s races provide the theme around which the book is woven, but there’s so much more – how the circuit was developed and how it’s changed (which isn’t much at all), the so-called ‘riots’ from spectator and police perspectives, the controversial introduction of super tourers, DJ and the infamous rock, international drivers, the rise of Brock, the start of in-car TV, the day Jenson Button & Craig Lowndes drove an F1 McLaren around the circuit... and all this for a very reasonable price!
