A Kiwi Mustang racer in Oz
My name is William Vining, I’m a Kiwi from Christchurch but have been living in Sydney for the past 10 years. I drive in a well-known muscle car series called TCM (Touring Car Masters). I have completed my first session in TCM, which is an incredibly tough class, with a lot of big name drivers such as Jim Richards, Glenn Seton and John Bowe. I finished third in class, and took out the Rookie/Achievement of the year award. I was wondering if you would be interested in doing an article for your magazine. I thought running an article on a kiwi taking on the Aussies may draw some keen interest.
I have always been a big fan of NZ Classic Driver and recently received a copy of issue 54 with the GT-350 on the cover. Great story and an awesome car, I used to watch that car run at the PDL classic many years ago ,and I drove a GT-350 identical to the one in the article before running in TCM.
The car I drive now in TCM is a 1965 Mustang coupe which has undergone a full restoration and has been recognised as one of the best prepared historic race cars in the country. The car has featured in Unique Car and various other Aussie titles but I would love it to feature back home. I have attached a few pics of the car and we also have a website www. trrta.com (Thunder Road Racing Team Australia) which will give a better understanding of how much work has gone into this car. William Vining, Sydney TH Thanks William. A story on a Kiwi doing battle against the cream of Australia’s touring car drivers sounds very appealing to me. Please keep me posted on your exploits.
