Those of you who

are James Bond fans (or specifically Sean Connery fans) will surely remember Goldfinger, and the famous golf match between Bond and the cheating Goldfinger.

It was staged at a famous golf course near Slough (a town which was once the home of several famous racing manufacturers and teams) called Stoke Park. A former stately home, it is now a hotel and golf venue. If you saw the film you may recall that Oddjob chopped the head off one of the statues with his bowler hat!

For the past three years Stoke Park has organised the Club Cup Golf Tournament, an event to which they invite 4-man teams from all the leading clubs of England. The Hurlingham, Aspinalls, All England Tennis, Caledonian Club, Queens Club, to mention just a few of the eighteen clubs which make up the field. The British Racing Drivers’ Club is always invited and I am grateful to have been on their team every year.

My old mate Jeremy Rossiter was unavailable this time so my team mates this year were three of the young English up-and-coming stars, Will Stevens (Renault 3.5 and Caterham F1 simulator driver), Duncan Tappy (now driving for Bentley) and Sam Bird (former Mercedes F1 simulator driver and ‘almost‘ GP2 champion in 2013).

Sam is now driving for Ferrari in their GT program, and racing in America as well. Duncan and Sam are golfing regulars, but Will was the newcomer to the team.

These three young guys hit the ball a mile, so they out-drive me off the tee and it takes a bit of ‘skill and cunning’ around the green to match them on any hole!
