Probe into car shoot­ing

Clutha po­lice are ap­peal­ing for in­for­ma­tion re­gard­ing a ve­hi­cle that was shot at mul­ti­ple times while parked near Kaka Point in south Otago at the week­end.

A .22 cal­i­bre ri­fle and a higher pow­ered ri­fle were used to shoot the ve­hi­cle, which was parked off the road on farm­land near the Kaka Point and Brook­dale roads in­ter­sec­tion, be­tween 5pm Fri­day and 1pm Sun­day.

The ve­hi­cle was shot at, at least seven times, Sergeant Robin Hut­ton, of Bal­clutha, said.

Po­lice are in­ter­ested in hear­ing from the public or from wit­nesses in re­la­tion to this in­ci­dent.

Po­lice have ar­rested a 17-year-old Clin­ton man in re­la­tion to the theft of a Sil­ver Ford Laser ve­hi­cle stolen from out­side a Gor­mack St ad­dress on April 25. It was later re­cov­ered near Clin­ton.

The man also al­legedly stole $15 cash from the ve­hi­cle. He was charged with un­law­fully tak­ing a ve­hi­cle and theft, and will ap­pear at Dunedin District Court.

Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing pos­si­ble links be­tween re­cent ru­ral thefts in the Clin­ton-Cly­de­vale area dur­ing March - April, fol­low­ing the theft of two petrol cans from two prop­er­ties on Wairuna Settlement Road, from open sheds, be­tween April 20 and May 4.
