Probe into car shooting
Clutha police are appealing for information regarding a vehicle that was shot at multiple times while parked near Kaka Point in south Otago at the weekend.
A .22 calibre rifle and a higher powered rifle were used to shoot the vehicle, which was parked off the road on farmland near the Kaka Point and Brookdale roads intersection, between 5pm Friday and 1pm Sunday.
The vehicle was shot at, at least seven times, Sergeant Robin Hutton, of Balclutha, said.
Police are interested in hearing from the public or from witnesses in relation to this incident.
Police have arrested a 17-year-old Clinton man in relation to the theft of a Silver Ford Laser vehicle stolen from outside a Gormack St address on April 25. It was later recovered near Clinton.
The man also allegedly stole $15 cash from the vehicle. He was charged with unlawfully taking a vehicle and theft, and will appear at Dunedin District Court.
Police are investigating possible links between recent rural thefts in the Clinton-Clydevale area during March - April, following the theft of two petrol cans from two properties on Wairuna Settlement Road, from open sheds, between April 20 and May 4.
