Netball programme helps deliver dreams
Are you female, netball mad and can dream big?
The ANZ bank’s Dream Delivery programme aimed at young netballers is designed to achieve sporting goals.
The programme coincides with the launch of the ANZ Premiership, New Zealand’s new elite domestic netball competition this winter.
Dream Delivery is open to all Clutha players, whether it’s for new high performance gear to propel performance, training and tips by some of the best in the sport or inspirational visits from their netball heroes.
The idea is to inspire players from every generation to go further and help ensure locals have great access to team sports.
A young Tokanui netballer, Olivia Biggar, 10, did just that in April, when she found herself at the heart of the action at an ANZ Premiership match at Invercargill. The Tokanui School pupil got to stand side by side with Southern Steel captain Wendy Frew and Mystics captain Anna Harrison in front of a stadium of fans.
Olivia, along with Invercargill netballer Katie Wallace, 11, won the opportunity to meet the team captains and high five each of the players as they were called onto centre court at the start of the match, through the ANZ Future Captains competition.
Olivia said she was really nervous before the game but excited to meet her heroes and watch them play.
‘‘My favourite part was being able to high five all of the netball people and it was pretty cool meeting the captains.
‘‘I thought the Steel were really good at getting goals in.’’
ANZ sponsorship head Susan McGregor said the programme was all about giving 94 New Zealand children the chance to meet their sporting heroes at each of the ANZ Premiership matches this season.
‘‘We’re very pleased we’re able to offer this amazing opportunity to young Kiwis and hope that by offering them the chance to stand on centre court with their heroes it will help inspire them to achieve their dreams.’’
McGregor said the programme supported netball from from grassroots right up to the Silver Ferns.
‘‘We know sometimes all you need is just that little bit of extra help to achieve your dreams, so we are committed to helping as many netball fans as we can.’’
