Clutha Leader - - YOUR LOCAL NEWS -

I felt very excited and a little daunted for the district during the council’s discussions last week concerning Our Place Balclutha community plans.

We’ve got a community ad on page 7, which gives a pretty good snap shot of the scope of these plans, and you’ll certainly be hearing how these are shaping up during the coming months.

They’re ambitious, and that’s a good thing, otherwise there’s no point in pursuing efforts to ‘’’up’’ the town’s image and improve the linkage between Balclutha’s strung-out amenities.

The Balclutha War Memorial Hall is the big one - that’s a project that should be strongly community-led, and the council urges leaders to step right up.

Apart from the bridge, which is due for a Balclutha 150th anniversary tart-up, it’s what people see first - and last, as they enter and exit the town.

And whether the cenotaph should be moved to join it, so hall and memorial are together, is also a future question.

Keep watching this, and other spaces.
