Clutha Leader - - YOUR LOCAL NEWS -

I’ve staged a coup and taken hold of the news desk this week.

And speaking of coups, welcome to Political Reality TV; this year’s election lead-up has all the hallmarks of a Truman Show/ Hunger Games mash-up, and there could be some punch ups and shooting arrows too.

The recent furore over Gareth Morgan’s ‘‘lipstick on a pig’’ comment has opened up some questions about the election process, and made me wonder if this whole thing is just based on candidates having charisma, charm and personality.

Love him or hate him John Key had it, Jacinta has definitely got it – Bill? Hmmm, not so much, but he is trying. The parties are going tit for tat with their policy promises, upping the stakes at every turn.

I feel a change is coming, and with the amount of punters turning up to see the new Labour leader in Dunedin, it’s looking more and more that Bill English will have to up his game to stay in the race.

It’s going to be an interesting few weeks.
