South Otago secondary schools were amongst the 178 contacted by the Movember Foundation in a bid to have facial hair rules waived so students could support the national men’s health awareness appeal. Blue Mountain College principal Lindy Cavanagh-Monaghan and Tokomairiro High School principal Glenis Sim said the seniors would be on examleave when Movember started, therefore students wouldn’t be participating. However, some staff would be taking part. South Otago High School principal Mike Wright said last year a student requested to participate, and permission was granted by the school board on the proviso that funds raised went to charity and that at the end of the month they were clean shaven again.
