A great con­ve­nience has been con­ferred on the in­hab­i­tants of this place, through the lib­er­al­ity of A. An­der­son, Esq., by plac­ing a new and ef­fi­cient boat at their ser­vice, for cross­ing the river at Bal­clutha and Inch Clutha. 1847, where he opened a shop, which pro­vi­sioned first set­tlers ships, the ‘‘John Wick­liffe’’ and ‘‘Philip Laing’’ when they ar­rived in March 1848. He moved to Inch Clutha in 1855, then Stir­ling in 1880, where he lived un­til his death in 1910.
