Clutha Leader - - YOUR LOCAL NEWS -

The year is underway and we are back into the swing of things.

First public holiday done and dusted and it was very pleasant. The vibe of Waitangi Day seemed very peaceful and warm, with the new Prime Minister making a positive impression with iwi and visitors. Certainly a different day to past years with all sorts of unusual items being fired at the government’s representatives.

An island away, Opposition leader Bill English was doing Waitangi with the Nga¯i Tahu at Te Rau Aroha Marae in Bluff.

Our next public holiday is Otago Anniversary Day in March, then Easter, Anzac Day and Queen’s Birthday, then months and months until Labour Day!

I think we need one in the middle there somewhere. Maybe ‘‘Need a Break Day’’ or ‘‘PreLabour Day’’ or ‘‘Netflix Binge Day’’. Or name it after awellknown Kiwi: Edmund Hillary Day, The Sam Neill Short Break or Taika Waititi Holiday. Maybe we are just too spoiled and have too many holidays throughout the year, or maybe I just need to harden-up and stop whingeing?
