Whangamata RSA Dec 6: Twenty Two players came along to the Christmas Breakup. With two players tied, the eventual winner of the Trophy was decided on the last day with Des Flynn being the 2017 winner. The day’s play was won by Peter Forward with Merv Ward and Ian Wenn each winning a chocky bar. Helen Tebbutt won the Meat at the Beach Raffle. New players always welcome on Wednesdays from 12.30pm — play starts at 1pm. Whangamata Club Dec 4: The night of the super moon saw super darts. 1st place Karen, 2nd Liz. Bevan won members draw and Ray threw nearest for 6 dart draw.

Congratulations to Francis O’laughlin for coming 3rd with a score of 17. Dec 4: Competition winner was Pat Worth with the maximum 21 points and Chris Hallums was runner up on 19.

Whangamata RSA Nov 28: Winners were Laurene Eades, Betty Wilmer and Ann Costar with Peter Gorrie, Gary St Clair and Lynda Callaghan coming a close second. Raffle was won by Ann Costar. Dec 4: Winners were Paulette Glading, Jenny Harpur and Lynda Callaghan (you can come and visit anytime Jenny) and the runners up were Peter Gorrie, Trish Schultz and Janet Foley. Janet also won the raffle. Whangamata Club Dec 5: Small group of six and we ended up playing 2.2.2 bowling which means everyone gets a turn at being skip, two and lead. Makes for a few laughs. Winners were Ann Purcell, Ellen Martin and Max Hill. Losers were Peter Gorrie, Alan Mccowatt and Joy O’sullivan. Dec 8: Great day today for summer. We had 23 turn out today to come and enjoy themselves at The Whangamata Club. Winners: John Hares, Ellen Martin and Nancy Stewart. Good on you all. Raffle Winner: Merv Ward. Wonderful to see our Smiley Eyed Don Gardner back for a game today. We have so missed you Don. Dec 1: We had a pretty good turnout today of 20 players. Winners: Laurene Eades, Jim Bell and Trish Schultz — well done guys a really good win for you all. Raffle: Jim Bell again won, but this time a nice meat pack for him. Until next February 2018 when normal bowling starts up again, we will not be having organised bowls at The Club on a Wednesday. However, anybody feeling like a game or two is welcome to perhaps do a ring around and get some mates to come in and have a game. Up to you.

Pauanui Another very busy two weeks for Pauanui bowlers with further Club Championships being completed and local Clubs Open Tournaments. Women’s 1 to 8 year Singles Championship was won by Alison Marks from Kim Watson in a keenly contested final. Men’s Open Singles Championship: There were 8 entrants and at the end of day one 4 players were still in contention. On day two John Mcconnell beat Derek Davis while Greg Meredith beat Warren Haycock. John ( 2 lives ) then lost 20 to 21 to Greg (1 life) who he had beaten on the previous day. In the final game John took control to win the Championship which had produced some excellent bowls for a very appreciative crowd. In other events 2 Pauanui teams competed in the Annual Whangamata 3 Day Classic. John Mcconnell with 2 ex Pauanui players, Graham Bowers & Gerry Wright and David Gillingham won Division 2. Pauanui bowlers were also successful at Tairua Inc. Hams tournament where an excellent field of 30 teams attended. Derek Davis, Greg Mole & David Gillingham unbeaten with 4 wins won with Des Paton, Anne & Ron Jeffries also with 4 wins in 2nd place. John Mcconnell Graham Bowers & Heather Mcconnell were 4th. In breaking news as this report is completed John Mcconnell, Grant Moran & Greg. Meredith have won the Thames Valley Centre Champion of Champions Mens Triples title at Coromandel.
