■ 500 CARD CLUB

Whanga­mata RSA Dec 6: Twenty Two play­ers came along to the Christ­mas Breakup. With two play­ers tied, the even­tual win­ner of the Tro­phy was de­cided on the last day with Des Flynn be­ing the 2017 win­ner. The day’s play was won by Peter For­ward with Merv Ward and Ian Wenn each win­ning a chocky bar. He­len Teb­butt won the Meat at the Beach Raf­fle. New play­ers al­ways wel­come on Wed­nes­days from 12.30pm — play starts at 1pm. Nov 29: Eigh­teen play­ers came along and en­joyed the af­ter­noon with Linda Har­ris be­ing the top player and Gra­ham Opie win­ning the choco­late bar. Pam Gray won the Meat at the Beach Raf­fle.

Whanga­mata Club Dec 4: The night of the su­per moon saw su­per darts. 1st place Karen, 2nd Liz. Be­van won mem­bers draw and Ray threw near­est for 6 dart draw.

■ GOLF CRO­QUET

Dec 11: Win­ners: Pat Worth and Joy O’sullivan with a score of 20. Run­ners up: Cherie Cun­ning­ham and Don O’sullivan with a score of 18. Con­grat­u­la­tions to Fran­cis O’laughlin for com­ing 3rd with a score of 17. Dec 4: Com­pe­ti­tion win­ner was Pat Worth with the max­i­mum 21 points and Chris Hal­lums was run­ner up on 19.

■ IN­DOOR BOWLS

Whanga­mata RSA Nov 28: Win­ners were Lau­rene Eades, Betty Wilmer and Ann Costar with Peter Gor­rie, Gary St Clair and Lynda Cal­laghan com­ing a close sec­ond. Raf­fle was won by Ann Costar. Dec 4: Win­ners were Paulette Glad­ing, Jenny Harpur and Lynda Cal­laghan (you can come and visit any­time Jenny) and the run­ners up were Peter Gor­rie, Trish Schultz and Janet Fo­ley. Janet also won the raf­fle. Whanga­mata Club Dec 5: Small group of six and we ended up play­ing 2.2.2 bowl­ing which means every­one gets a turn at be­ing skip, two and lead. Makes for a few laughs. Win­ners were Ann Pur­cell, Ellen Martin and Max Hill. Losers were Peter Gor­rie, Alan Mc­cow­att and Joy O’sullivan. Dec 8: Great day to­day for sum­mer. We had 23 turn out to­day to come and en­joy them­selves at The Whanga­mata Club. Win­ners: John Hares, Ellen Martin and Nancy Ste­wart. Good on you all. Raf­fle Win­ner: Merv Ward. Won­der­ful to see our Smi­ley Eyed Don Gard­ner back for a game to­day. We have so missed you Don. Dec 1: We had a pretty good turnout to­day of 20 play­ers. Win­ners: Lau­rene Eades, Jim Bell and Trish Schultz — well done guys a re­ally good win for you all. Raf­fle: Jim Bell again won, but this time a nice meat pack for him. Un­til next Fe­bru­ary 2018 when nor­mal bowl­ing starts up again, we will not be hav­ing or­gan­ised bowls at The Club on a Wed­nes­day. How­ever, any­body feel­ing like a game or two is wel­come to per­haps do a ring around and get some mates to come in and have a game. Up to you.

■ LAWN BOWLS

Pauanui An­other very busy two weeks for Pauanui bowlers with fur­ther Club Cham­pi­onships be­ing com­pleted and lo­cal Clubs Open Tour­na­ments. Women’s 1 to 8 year Sin­gles Cham­pi­onship was won by Ali­son Marks from Kim Wat­son in a keenly con­tested fi­nal. Men’s Open Sin­gles Cham­pi­onship: There were 8 en­trants and at the end of day one 4 play­ers were still in con­tention. On day two John Mccon­nell beat Derek Davis while Greg Mered­ith beat War­ren Hay­cock. John ( 2 lives ) then lost 20 to 21 to Greg (1 life) who he had beaten on the pre­vi­ous day. In the fi­nal game John took con­trol to win the Cham­pi­onship which had pro­duced some ex­cel­lent bowls for a very ap­pre­cia­tive crowd. In other events 2 Pauanui teams com­peted in the An­nual Whanga­mata 3 Day Clas­sic. John Mccon­nell with 2 ex Pauanui play­ers, Gra­ham Bow­ers & Gerry Wright and David Gilling­ham won Di­vi­sion 2. Pauanui bowlers were also suc­cess­ful at Tairua Inc. Hams tour­na­ment where an ex­cel­lent field of 30 teams at­tended. Derek Davis, Greg Mole & David Gilling­ham un­beaten with 4 wins won with Des Pa­ton, Anne & Ron Jef­fries also with 4 wins in 2nd place. John Mccon­nell Gra­ham Bow­ers & Heather Mccon­nell were 4th. In break­ing news as this re­port is com­pleted John Mccon­nell, Grant Mo­ran & Greg. Mered­ith have won the Thames Val­ley Cen­tre Cham­pion of Cham­pi­ons Mens Triples ti­tle at Coro­man­del. Whanga­mata Nov 30: Rollup. Mike Dono­van, Barry Thom­son 1.
