Last week the brigade responded to a minor vehicle accident on Port Rd which required scene safety and patient assessment.

On Saturday our fire ute travelled out and provided first aid coverage during a national enduro motorcycle event in the local forest. The day had no incidents to attend to which was good considering the wet conditions encountered.

During July the brigade recognised several members at a honours night held at the station. Several personnel received recognition for the efforts and the years of service given to Fire and Emergency New Zealand. Guests included life honorary members, ex members, families and several other emergency services.

This year’s awards went to — FF Barry Romero 3 year Certificate; FF William Morrison 3 year Certificate; FF Andy Robertson 5 year Medal; OS Dave Ryan 2 year silver bar 9 years; FF Dave Artz 2 year silver bar 11 years; CFO Nigel Airey 2 year silver bar 15 years; SO OS Ralph Pitcher 2 year silver bar. 52 years; Adam Diamond Long Service Good Conduct Medal and the Life Honorary award. Nigel Airey Long Service Good Conduct Medal and Life Honorary award.

Great achievements all around and a staggering combined total of years serving the community.

As I have said before, our district would simply not function if it wasn’t for all those who volunteer in all the different organisations, clubs and groups throughout town.

Wishing you a safe week.
