Castle Rock rahui placed in response to deaths
Ngati Huarere have implemented a rahui (closure) on their maunga, or mountain, Motutere/castle Rock until further notice following the deaths of two people in recent months.
This closure is effective immediately and the public are asked not to access the site.
“As legal owners, we want to take time to discuss how we manage our maunga going forward,” says Wanda Brljevich, Ngati Huarere spokeswoman.
“This mountain is private property and notice is given that any unauthorised access will be taken as trespassing. Ngati Huarere does not accept any responsibility for anyone accessing the site,” says Mrs Brljevich.
