On Satur­day, June 23, the Beach Hop Com­mit­tee hosted the an­nual Vol­un­teers and Spon­sors Bar B Que. The venue was the Whanga­mata Surf Life Sav­ing Club, in Williamson Park. About 80 peo­ple at­tended, a lit­tle down on last year’s num­bers.

Pres­i­dent Noddy Watts spoke about the 2018 Beach Hop Fes­ti­val, and ex­pressed the com­mit­tee’s heart­felt thanks to the large num­ber of vol­un­teers who give up their time to make th­ese events one of New Zealands pre­mier oc­ca­sions.

He also thanked the many spon­sors for their con­tin­u­ing sup­port.

This year the com­mit­tee dis­trib­uted cheques in the total sum of $40,000 to the Whanga­mata Surf Life Sav­ing Club, the Whanga­mata Vol­un­teer Coast­guard, Coro­man­del Res­cue He­li­copter Trust, Tairua/pauanui Land SAR, Whanga­mata Vol­un­teer Fire Brigade, and to St John Whanga­mata.
