Fashion show a fun afternoon at Ocean Sports
Enjoying a showcase of the latest in fashion and welcoming in the summer with a fun afternoon among friends are just two of the reasons to get along to a fashion show featuring local faces in Whangamata this weekend.
Being hosted by Whangamata Ocean Sports Fishing Club on Sunday afternoon, the show is a hit with local women and has raised more than $5000 for the Whangamata Community Services Trust over the years.
“It’s a great Sunday afternoon, we’re expecting 100 women,” says organiser Diana Fay. “As well as the fashion show, which features local retailers Merrell, Tango shoes, Anna S, Mainly Casual, Bettie Munroe, Saltwater Surf and Beach Babies, there’ll be stalls and spot prizes, free wine tasting and raffles.
“Some of the retailers have had a tough winter so this is an opportunity to welcome in the summer, and have a bit of fun.”
The show is in its fourth year and Diana has been organising it for the past two. She says it is never difficult to find models and the women of the catwalk range in shape, size and age.
“They’re not stereotyped, and most of them are firsttime models.”
Retailers have provided several outfits each and there will be plenty of quick changes behind the scenes for the models making their debut on the stage. Rehearsals have taken place though, and they are all willing and ready.
Tickets are $20 and available from the Whangamata Ocean Sports Club. The show runs from 3pm to 5pm and entry includes a glass of bubbles, food nibbles and entry to the draw for a donated hamper from New World Whangamata.
