Do you have a spare hour to help the Whangamata¯ Lions on Friday?

The Whangamata¯ Lions Craft and Farmers Market this Labour Weekend promises to be a big one, and members of the club could use a hand setting up on the day before.

It is the 25th market hosted by the Lions and more than $100,000 has been given in donations to the community as a result of fundraising efforts over the years as hosts.

Organiser John Hare says it’s a big day for the volunteers and they couldn’t do it without the extra helpers who come to the fore.

“We call them Lions for the day, and they’re wonderful,” he says.

“We have a working bee the day before and to take it down. We get assistance from people just popping in for an hour which is a huge help as it’s a big day for us.”
