Cuisine - Good Food Guide - - Auckland -

There are few places better suited to a long, languid lunch than Bracu, a 40-minute drive south of Auckland. Housed in a lovely kauri villa with a covered verandah, set amid the olive trees of Simunovich Olive Estate, Bracu has old-fashioned charm in spades. The food, under the deft hand of chef Mikey Newlands, is excellent, making good use of the seasonal produce grown in the grounds of the estate. You might start with venison carpaccio with hazelnut, mushroom and artichoke, and follow with roasted local duck with carrot, cumin and coconut, finishing up with a Pedro Ximenez creme brulee with apple and sorrel. With an excellent wine list and top-notch service headed up by Newlands’ partner Amanda Rogers, formerly of Sidart, Bracu is an ideal spot for an out-of-thecity special occasion. 49 Main Rd, RD1, Bombay, ph: 09-236 1030, bracu.co.nz Lunch Wed-sun, dinner Wed-sat; mains $39.90 IN BRIEF Skilfully prepared, top-quality food in an elegant setting
