Good Food Guide - - Auckland -

Opening its doors in September 2015, Beirut is a chic addition to the growing Fort St dining precinct. The feeling is relaxed and intimate, with stylishly dark warm tones combining with the decadence of gold and bronze to give a cosmopolitan flavour. The modern Middle Eastern vibe comes through in the menu too, with beautifully presented food that thoughtfully combines traditional Middle Eastern ingredients with the unexpected to give you sophisticated and at times inspired food. The breads are a highlight – pillowy, lightly scorched flatbread with a creamy, smoky labneh and a smear of sweet pureed dates, say, or Afghan bread with burnt butter, pistachio and rose petal jam. A small but diverse wine list offers a good selection of by-the-glass options and the cocktail list is excellent. 85 Fort St, City, ph: 09-367 6882, beirut.co.nz Breakfast & lunch Mon-fri, dinner 7 days; large shared plates $23-$30 IN BRIEF Mod-middle Eastern food in a stylish space
