Cuisine - Good Food Guide - - Auckland -

Masu is big, bold and buzzy, serving up contemporary Japanese food in a slick space in the heart of Auckland city’s Federal St hub. Whether you’re perched at the bar overlooking the robata grill, or seated at one of the chic pale wooden tables watching the waitstaff do their thing, there’s always plenty to look at. The menu is divided into dishes from the sushi bar, the kitchen and the aforementioned robata grill, and there’s oodles to choose from, whether you’re in the mood for the likes of kombu-cured john dory, perfect pork and kimchi gyoza or Antarctic cod with saikyo yuzu miso. Every dish is visually stunning, almost too pretty to eat, and the wine and sake list is extensive. There’s also beer by top Japanese craft brewery Baird, and the stylish bar at the front of the restaurant turns out some seriously good cocktails.
