THE ENGINE ROOM

15.5/20

Cuisine - Good Food Guide - - Auckland -

In a city that often feels all about the new and hot-right-now, The Engine Room motors along; a constantly busy and buzzing high performer. Natalia Schamroth and Karl Koppenhagen have fine-tuned their operation over the years – polishing their repertoire of bistro classics, assembling an expert team in the kitchen and on the floor, and adding an extra dining room a few years back. Some things are constant though, including the goldstandard veal schnitzel with crisp potato rosti, and the profiteroles with chocolate sauce. It’s a classic neighbourhood bistro the kind of place that has legions of lucky local regulars, takes bookings at civilised hours and turns out accomplished, flavourful food accompanied by good wine. What’s not to like about that? 115 Queen St, Northcote Point, ph: 09-480 9502, theengineroom.net.nz Lunch Fri, dinner Tues-sat; mains $36-$38 IN BRIEF Polished, constantly buzzy neighbourhood bistro
