Good Food Guide - - Wellington -

Passing through the bistro and bar area into Chillingworth Road’s fine-dining room is a bit like entering another world – it’s a dramatic, windowless space with dark walls and chandeliers, the right setting for chef Darren Wright’s intricate, beautiful food. Offering five-, seven- or nine-course tasting menus, Chillingworth Road is big on local, sustainable ingredients, and transparency in every step from paddock to plate. An amuse bouche of rich, beautifully seasoned celeriac soup with smoked eel is sensational, while perfectly cooked pork belly pairs well with smooth, creamy cauliflower puree, a cauliflower beignet and seared scallop. Desserts are impressive too, while the wine list is solid, with plenty of by-the-glass options, and service is friendly and enthusiastic. 2/478 Cranford St, Papanui, ph: 03-352 7784, chilling Lunch Mon-fri, dinner Tues-sat; degustation menus $85-$135 IN BRIEF Intricate food in a dramatic space
