NO 7 BALMAC

14.5/20

Cuisine - Good Food Guide - - Dunedin -

An urbane space with a lively neighbourhood bistro feel, No 7 Balmac comprises a daytime cafe and a more intimate evening restaurant. The menu could be described as a Kiwi take on classic French bistro fare – superbly cooked Cardrona merino lamb rump is perfectly complemented by carrot cumin puree, barley tabouli and pickled carrots, for example, and a wood-grilled lemon and thyme-infused quarter chicken comes with hand-cut chips and aioli. There’s also a good selection of vegetarian dishes, as well as shared plates and sides. Desserts are a strong point – don’t miss the black doris plum bombe alaska. The service is friendly without being overbearing and the wine list is well chosen, plus there’s a good selection of craft beer and non-alcoholic drinks. 7 Balmacewen Rd, Maori Hill, ph: 03-464 0064, no7balmac.co.nz Breakfast & lunch 7 days, dinner Mon-sat; mains $29-$45
