PHIL’S KITCHEN

Good Food Guide - - Auckland -

A tiny 20-seater restaurant in the heart of Kingsland, Phil’s Kitchen sits somewhere between simple bistro eating and fine dining. Modern, fresh ingredients are the inspiration behind every mouthful, and chef-owner Phil Clark (above) uses the skills he’s learned at Auckland restaurants like Merediths and Sidart, as well as in European Michelin-starred eateries, to create some clever and innovative dishes. You might start with a delightful cheese brioche, followed by beautifully cooked delights like pan-roasted hapuku with shaved black truffle slices, then finish with floating islands with cardamom anglaise, honey, pistachio and almonds, or lemon parfait with soft meringue and raspberry. Diners are looked after with care by Clark’s French partner Marine Peyregne, and the wine list is small and interesting.
