Tucked in the heart of cen­tral Auck­land un­der the Skyc­ity man­tle lies The Grill, an unashamed and iconic cel­e­bra­tion of meat in a New York steak­house set­ting. The Grill’s name is syn­ony­mous with ex­cel­lent meat, and the tra­di­tional menu won’t dis­ap­point any­one look­ing for tasty, flavour­ful dishes. Mains like Sa­van­nah An­gus pas­ture-fed rib eye on the bone with an­chovy but­ter are this restaurant’s bread and but­ter, al­though non-meat op­tions like Cloudy Bay clams with ja­mon, chilli and pars­ley sauce are cooked equally beau­ti­fully, and the wine list is both ex­ten­sive and im­pres­sive. Chef Sean Con­nolly has carved him­self a place in the Kiwi restaurant scene as the master of meat – a po­si­tion that’s well de­served.
