CHIM CHOO REE

Cuisine - Good Food Guide - - Waikato -

Chim Choo Ree has a singular charm: the fit-out in the historic Waikato Brewery building is fresh and hip, guests are warmly welcomed, service is attentive and the food is excellent. Menus change seasonally, there is a thoughtfully chosen wine list, a good array of craft beers, and co-owner/head chef Cameron Farmilo (above) takes great care with the design and execution of his plates. A lovely fresh pasta entree of handmade tortellini filled with creamy local goat’s curd is further enhanced by burnt sage butter sauce and a swoosh of sweet date puree. Eye fillet is presented with cauliflower foam, black pudding and black garlic for a main. Desserts offer playful twists on classics; a light-as-air rice pudding mousse paired with ambrosia, lime mascarpone and sherbet is a beauty.
