TE AWA WINERY RESTAURANT
This lunchtime winery restaurant is a lovely spot for a family get-together that’s a little bit special, especially in the warmer months when the outdoor tables set amid a garden of native plants really come into their own. Chef Stephen Tindall’s Mediterranean-leaning menu is designed to share, with perfectly executed twists on classic flavour pairings such as grilled figs with blue cheese custard, seed wafer and cracked pepper syrup, and cider-glazed pork belly with apple, fennel and pickled onion. The clever desserts are a highlight too; the likes of strawberries with wild fennel and buttermilk pannacotta and meringue, and red liquorice ice cream, gingerbread crumbs and rhubarb. The excellent Te Awa wines complete the picture.
