Charley Noble commands a great location in one of the capital’s most beautifully restored heritage buildings. It’s a great spot for a corporate lunch or dinner with friends – so it’s not surprising that it has garnered a regular and dedicated crowd of locals as well as international guests from the city’s bigger hotels and visiting cruise ships. They’re all drawn by what feels like a classy take on posh pub grub – burgers, sausages and steaks cooked on the wood-fired grill; oysters any way you want ’em and some excellent sides (don’t miss the iceberg wedge with pink pickled onions and buttermilk ranch dressing). The drinks list is fulsome, with local drops well-represented, and service is slick. Make sure you leave room for the “white forest” dessert – a delectable confection of kirsch mousse and cherry sorbet.
