This book is a com­pre­hen­sive guide to Turkey and its food, be­gin­ning with a lowdown on favourite in­gre­di­ents, top tech­niques and com­mon terms. It then me­an­ders through the day of eat­ing, with recipes from break­fast to meze. It’s a de­light to pore over, with beau­ti­ful pho­to­graphs of scenes from Turk­ish life – piles of dried fruit at mar­kets, groups of men catch­ing up over tea, fish­ing vil­lages, Istanbul restau­rants and more. And the au­then­tic recipes are equally ap­peal­ing, with Sivri­oglu’s head­notes pro­vid­ing in­ter­est­ing back­ground de­tails.
