Lois Daish: restau­ra­teur, cook­book au­thor, New Zealand Food Writ­ers life mem­ber and Mem­ber of the New Zealand Or­der of Merit. Welling­ton’s Num­ber 9 on Bowen St, Mount Cook Cafe and Brook­lyn Cafe & Grill have all been part of this stal­wart’s ca­reer, but there’s plenty more to it. Daish has in­spired food writ­ers, chefs and home cooks through her food writ­ing, which started in the 1970s in a Welling­ton news­pa­per. In 1984, Daish be­gan writ­ing recipes for The Lis­tener and her col­umns were to ap­pear for the next 25 years. In 1987, she was a found­ing mem­ber of the New Zealand Guild of Food Writ­ers (now New Zealand Food Writ­ers), which was launched to en­cour­age ca­ma­raderie and dis­cus­sion among those who made their ca­reers in food writ­ing.
