When the weather cools and thoughts turn inwards it’s usually simple, familiar food that pushes the comfort buttons. Those dishes that you can cook from memory and which instantly conjure up feelings of satisfaction, warmth and security. Often it’s food from childhood that fits the bill, so the taste memories are inextricably mingled with recollections of family and friends. Whether you inherit your food memories, or make your own, they’re the things that you turn to when you’re cold, down and needing a big food hug.
